Academy of Physical Education in Katowice Open Academy – movement, education, and smiles for the youngest

16.12.2024

From December 8th to 10th, the official opening of the Open Academy at the Academy of Physical Education in Katowice took place. The event was multi-stage, and we had the pleasure of participating on two of those days.

December 9th – “Active Preschooler – Fun Games”

The Open Academy hosted its youngest participants on this day—preschoolers from Katowice. The children took part in movement games and activities prepared by Prof. Dorota Groffik, PhD, Hab. from the Academy of Physical Education in Katowice. One component involved the children participating in workshops from the Ninanki program, led by MSc Martyna Borowska. With live music, she introduced participants to the world of movement patterns using the Ninanki team. The entire room quickly felt how important and fascinating movement education for children is.

December 10th – “Ninanki – Living Well with Movement” – Teacher Training

On the third day, the Open Academy focused on adult education, specifically for preschool and early childhood education teachers. During the training titled “Ninanki – Living Well with Movement,” Prof. Krzysztof Ficek, PhD, Hab. presented this innovative educational composition. Professor Ficek delivered an extremely interesting lecture that revealed the scientific foundations and benefits of this approach to movement education.

The second part of the training consisted of “Ninanki in Practice” workshops. Teachers had the opportunity to experience the program firsthand. The methodology for introducing the project and key aspects of combining movement with music, along with visual and ecological associations, were explained and demonstrated by MSc Martyna Borowska. The world of movement was presented by physiotherapy students Maja Śliwa and Zuzanna Kielma, who precisely practiced movement patterns together with the participants.

This exceptional event highlighted how crucial it is to combine theoretical knowledge with practical application to inspire teachers and support the development of the youngest.

Ninanki at the 8th Silesian Science Festival

At this year’s 8th Silesian Science Festival, we had the honor of presenting our activities as Ninanki. At our booth, visitors had the opportunity not only to deepen their knowledge but also to actively participate in exercises that combined movement with music.

We prepared interactive workshops to demonstrate how the dynamic combination of movement and sound can influence the development of motor skills, creativity, and body awareness. Participants—both children, teenagers, and adults—had the chance to try their hand at various activities that brought lots of smiles and positive energy.

Our activities were led by exceptional individuals who brought immense knowledge and passion to the event. Mgr Julia Walatek—a physiotherapist and co-creator of the Ninanki program—ensured the substantive quality and professional delivery of the workshops. Support was provided by physiotherapy students Zuzanna Kielma and Maja Śliwa, who enthusiastically engaged participants in exercises and shared their energy. The entire effort was coordinated by Mgr Martyna Borowska, the program coordinator, who ensured the booth ran like a well-oiled machine.

We were also visited by the well-known artist, Kuba Badach. Not only did he observe our activities with interest, but he also participated in the musical part of the workshops. To our immense delight, he sang and played the chorus of our “anthem”—”Ninanki GO!”—on handbells, which was an incredibly inspiring moment for both us and the participants.

The Silesian Science Festival is a special event for us, where we not only share our knowledge but also draw inspiration from the enthusiasm of the participants. Thank you to everyone who visited our booth—your curiosity and engagement are the best motivation for us to continue our work!

See you at future events!

Sports Journal: interview with prof. Krzysztof Ficek

18.11.2024

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Krzysztof Ficek has given another interview, in which he discussed the Ninanki program and the importance of physical activity in the daily life of every person, not just athletes.

The professor shared his insights on the crucial role of movement in child development. He emphasized that appropriately chosen exercises and physical activities support children’s physical, emotional, and intellectual development. The professor also pointed out that movement is not only a way to achieve physical health but also a vital tool supporting concentration, perseverance, and creative expression. He also drew attention to the significance of physical identity, which shapes personality and provides confidence in basic daily behaviors. The professor highlighted the importance of swimming, as a non-joint-loading discipline, in developing muscular strength, mobility, and elements of stability that are necessary in other sports.
